Interior Design Trends – 2022 Colours

Whether you are refreshing your décor in order to sell or are buying a new property, we summarise industry expert’s views below to bring you inspiration.

The colour palette for 2022 takes on a new confidence with feelings of hope and positivity for the future. The way forward is a modern take on strong colours for a more positive future.

  • Thinking Green:
Wall colours are making a definite move to all shades of green, for tranquillity, calm and a nod to nature. From sage, moss and pistachio tones to a grey-green or a deep green reminiscent of classic British racing car green.
  • Sanctuary:
In 2022 bedrooms are being reclaimed as the sanctuary they are meant to be, providing rest and recuperation. For a lot of people bedrooms in the post restriction era do not need to double as workspaces or extra storage spaces and the focus will be on subtle soothing colours.
  • Optimism:
With a renewed confidence, rather than our lives revolving around instability and uncertainty, this is also reflected in the colours in the home. There is a move towards bolder colours with brights and pops of colour in the kitchen, such as multiple shade cabinets, coloured islands or AGAs. Spaces are taking on a more modern playful look. Pattern and print also add to the joy factor. Farrow & Ball’s colour expert states that bold, distinctive hues will give our interior spaces strength of character, still modest and simple, but bolder that the past two years – such as their colours Breakfast Room Green, Stone Blue and Incarnadine. All reminiscent of the Arts and Crafts Movement.
  • Pantone Colour of the Year:
‘Very Peri’ is the name of the Pantone colour of the year for 2022. As a subtle, muted purply blue, it provides balance when mixed both warm and cool shades. It adapts to a sophisticated or playful palette. Pantone states that the colour is “a symbol of the moment and the transition we are going through. It encompasses the quality of blues yet shows violet red undertones with a spritely joyous attitude.”
